We had a successful first year of homeschool. I've always wanted to be a teacher, but never imagined teaching my own kids in our home. It's so awesome to have the opportunity and resources to do so. I doubted my abilities the first six weeks of school, but after finding the right curriculum we were all enjoying it. Those first six weeks were HARD. Those days are past us and we figured out what we needed to do to make homeschool work for us.
I'll do a post this summer on our curriculum choices that worked for us and then a post on what we will be using this fall. Now that I know how each kid works best, I'm hoping we won't have to switch things up 6 weeks in like last fall.
Last week we completed the required standardized testing. We tested for three days. I can't wait to get the tests back to see how well they did.
I mean, look at this handsome boy.
On the last day of testing they made their last day of school signs.
And then they received their end of year gifts. I received a free pair of sunglasses from Justice when we went shopping a few weeks ago, so I saved them for this day. She loves having a big kid pair of sunglasses. No more character glasses.
When Xander learned time this year, it finally clicked and he's been obsessing over getting a watch. So that was his gift.
He loves it!
This girl is beyond excited to be moving up to second grade.
He's pretty excited to move up to 3rd. Except for the harder work. Third grade is a bit more serious.
These two worked hard all year. We struggled. We laughed. We had fun. We learned new things.
On Friday we mailed their tests back to get graded and then headed to Chuck E Cheese to celebrate. And then I went to get my hair done 😉. On Saturday we celebrated with a fire and s'mores with friends, catching fire flies and jumping on the trampoline in the dark with friends. It's been the perfect ending to our school year.
It was a great first year! We're excited to start year two in August. But first enjoy summer break.
