It's true. We found out two months ago that the program Nick is in will be ending next year so they are PCSing (moving) all the personnel in the unit. So much for our plan of staying in one area for the next three years! Because Nick is on a one year tour, he kind of had the choice of where he wanted to go next. So he requested to return to Germany. We loved our three years there when the kids were younger and thought it'd be so much fun with the kids being older now.
The kids will love visiting the Trevi fountain!
As you can tell by the title, we didn't get Germany. But, we did get Italy. A few hours after the shock of being told we'd be going to Italy, I started panicking. It'll be all new again. I was loving the idea of going back to Germany because we'd already been in the country and kind of knew what to expect. Italy though? Completely new. We'd only been in Italy for 7 days before. How's the housing going to work? Do we live on base or on the economy? Will Lulu need to be quarantined? How does homeschooling work over there? Do we need a smaller car? There were just so many questions that I started freaking out that this was all a huge mistake.
Nick then tried getting out of the assignment the next week. We tried going to Kansas. Yes, Kansas. Over Italy. We're totally crazy, but remember I was panicking. Much to our dismay, the military worked super quick on this assignment and his actual orders were already cut for Italy. Since when does the military work so quick?! Every other PCS we've done we didn't get our orders no sooner than 2 months before leaving.
So now we'll get to enjoy an Italian gondola ride again
We're back to being excited about the new opportunities for all of us. I'm really excited to retake pictures I took 9 years ago and this time with the kids in them. We're excited to explore Europe and make new friends.
We'll visit lots of ruins.
Xander and I are most excited for their food. This one meal I'm hoping to find again. It was SO good! It was Rome, in a small restaurant. That pesto pasta was perfection!
After a month of knowing we're officially heading to Italy later this year, we are all very excited for the adventures we will be heading out on. We have a giant bucket list to check off over the next three years.
The kids and I will begin learning the Italian language this summer. How fun is that?!
