I think we have figured out a schedule that will work for summer fun and summer school. I've had it loosely written down for the past three weeks so I could edit it but now it's done! I have one child that thrives off of routine so this was basically for him. But I must admit, it's also nice to see what's on the docket next.
It's still a pretty loose schedule, because it's summer, but I also wanted structure for our days. The pool is probably the most requested item to check off each day, but we haven't had any this week. We've had nothing but rain. Once we can go again, if they have complaining about doing school work, they loose the pool the next time we'd be able to go. The pool is a big deal, so I don't foresee much resistance with school work.
We're also planning to have plenty of beach days this summer. We live about two hours from the coast, so we'll head out first thing in the morning and leave around lunchtime. After we get home from the beach, we'll follow the schedule after lunch.
As for school work, we are continuing with language arts and math all summer. It was rough last August when we started back up, so I'm hoping to slide right back into a routine when we pick up a full class schedule.
Rain or shine, we get outside
We've been using Adventure Academy, Education.com, and/or Tango Math for 20 minutes a day.
For language arts, we started our curriculum that we would've started in the fall. I purchased both kids two grade levels in The Good and the Beautiful curriculum. I just love the curriculum! It's been a good switch for us. Since this is a new method of learning language arts for them, I have them working on the grade level they just finished. So, it's pretty easy, but all the fun activities keep them from complaining. We're only doing one lesson a day.
I also plan on throwing in a unit study on weather/meteorology and also one on The Constitution and Independence Day. Nothing stressful. I'm making it fun and it's a win-win because it keeps them from getting too bored and bothersome with each other.
We'll have plenty of fun at the beach, pool, and visiting friends/family. We're still hoping some activities or camps open up because it'd be nice to make some local friends. We have three trips planned before August, but I'm still on the fence on one of them. Have you started taking trips yet?
Now, let the fun begin!
