Good morning. Beginning any new habit is hard and takes a lot of dedication. I've been trying to get up between 5:30 and 6 every morning to get things done before the kids wake up and take over the day. It's hard. It's much easier to stay asleep in your cozy, warm bed. Sigh. Yesterday I woke up at 5:50 easily. Today was another story. It was 6:15 and a struggle. The first thing I make sure to do is make coffee. It'll help wake me up after I stumble to the kitchen.
{Habit #1}
Getting up. After I made my coffee this morning, I wanted to work on this blog post and have it published by 7 am. Which gave me about 40 minutes after I had my warm cup of coffee next to me. Plenty of time, so I thought. I took this picture, and got busy jotting down all my thoughts on our new habits. You see, I only had two sentences written when...
This cute 7 pound monkey came flying on the couch
And knocked over my morning fuel. I didn't get mad. It's life. And life sometimes get's in the way of your plans. She's a dog. And cute and cuddly, so I grabbed some towels (and the swiffer) and got cleaning it up. We'll look at the positive that my couch will now forever smell delicious. And I made a new cup of coffee.
Back to creating new habits. So, I'm trying to wake up before the kids get up. I'm writing down {at least} three things the night before so I'll have a little motivator to wake up on time. So far it's involved coffee, write a blog post, and laundry. All three things I love to do. Once I'm accustomed to waking up before 6, I'll start adding in exercise.
{Habit #2}
This leads me to our next new habit. Health and fitness have become a priority for our family. I've been trying to work out around 4:30 every afternoon, but let's be honest. Something always comes up and keeps me from it. So then I'll fit in a quick workout after dinner, but then it's only 20 minutes and I don't feel like it's enough. So, I'll be adding working out to my early morning so I can get it done before life gets in the way and I let it take my health. We've also been taking an hour a few days a week to go to the track and then play basketball. Kids love it!
We're making more meals at home and shopping from the outer aisles of the grocery store too. This helps keep the processed foods down. We're not perfect, but we're aspiring to be better.
{Habit #3}
Our last habit that we added has been to read more. I'm a self help, counseling type of book reader. We turn off all screens an hour before closing in for the night. This gives everyone an hour to read before lights out. The kids have been doing this for the past few years, but now we're all doing it. It's a good way to fall asleep sooner than you normally do. Why does reading put you to sleep?!
I started a new Instagram account, our_perfect_circle. Here I'll be sharing more of our homeschool days and everything life brings us.
Some days are easier than others, but, everyday we'll keep trying.
