Since I've been MIA, I'll give a quick update on what's been happening.
{1} Our move orders to Italy have been cancelled and we are being rerouted to a new assignment. Where are we moving now? To South Carolina! Woohoo. We are so excited to be staying close to North Carolina to can come back as often as we'd like. We have made some pretty great friends here.
With SC on the docket, we need to find a place to live, enroll the kids in activities, and get established in our new community. We're going to continue homeschooling the kids and are excited to be a part of the homeschool community down there. We arrive in the area at the end of the month, so there's a lot of prepping to do. It's not fun. It's actually pretty stressful and I keep putting it off hoping it'll get done on it's own. Wishful thinking, I know.
We took a quick trip to look at a house and the kids enjoyed the hotel pool.
{2} We've been having some health issues that we've been dealing with. We're working our way to a new lifestyle and we're actually enjoying it. It's a process. It helps living in a warm place and being able to get out almost every day.
{3} The kids are really into basketball right now and it's the cutest thing ever. They think they know it all, of course. The like to create drills with each other and during each recess they run outside to get in more practice time. Rain? No problem, they'll still practice in the rain. They're nuts, but they're having fun.
Of course this meant jumping in puddles too.
{4} I created a budget and it's been working really well. On the 12th of January, I realized that we'd already spent $430 dollars in groceries in just 12 days. That's a bit crazy and opened my eyes to the carefree shopping trips I'd make to Harris Teeter every few days. We spent a total of $801 in January, just in grocery store trips. That didn't include restaurant visits. That was another $313! Yikes, yikes, yikes! I'm hoping to do better this month.
{5} Our very best friends came to Raleigh and we were able to hang out with them a few times. It's always good to see friends you don't get to see often because of schedules and such. These three have grown up together. It all started in Germany as babies.
{6} The kids woke up with the idea that they were going to create and make breakfast one morning. I agreed to let them, even if they did waste ingredients and make a mess. We made predictions, and wrote new recipes for another day. They had fun and I liked how creative they were in the kitchen.
{7} School has been going well. Some days are great and others are a hot mess. We also had a lot of doctor appointments in January that threw off our schedule so we're slowly getting back into a normal routine. We switched to new curriculum for some subjects in January, and while they are working, we might need to switch other subjects now. I'm just wanting to make things work until next school year. We can do hard things!
I just remind myself of this and drink lots and lots of lattes!
We're playing more board games
Making work more fun with bingo dobbers. Who would've known multiplication tic-tac-toe was so darn fun?!
{8} We bought a new car, so we're now a two car family again. Finally! Although, it wasn't too bad, but when Nick starts work again, it'll be nice to have my own ride.
{9} After using my Instant Pot more often, I decided that it was time to try the Air Fryer. We love it! I just wish I didn't take a year to grab one.
{10} Christmas went great. We enjoyed a quiet day playing with new toys and watching movies.
Sterling received an iPod and Scooter from Santa
Xander received a skateboard and skateboard ramp from Santa. Then we think Santa brought them both the razor trike that Xander is sitting on because neither of them asked for it.
That's it. We've been busy having fun and enjoying the last few weeks of Nick being home.
